LegoRobotics Blog Challenge


Challenge to my students:
Pick one of the Science Standards I have posted below by browsing through them. Do any of seem like they were written for Robotics? I think so. See if you can write a comment to this post describing how LegoRobotics meets a specific standard. In other words, I can see direct correlations, one after the other, of how the problems of LegoRootics hits many many NYS Learning Standards for Science. Can you?

Pick one standard and tell how you see one specific thing about Robotics hits exactly that standard and is met by doing the aspects of Robitics you thought about.

You have to think about how we go about doing Robotics. You have to think about the Standards as you read them on the blog posting. Then you have to write how they are same thing. Got it?

I think the first one kind of meets the standards of lego robotics because in lego robatics we try outting oiecs together and see if that makes our robot better.Also we look for different ways to make our robot better.so we try to find solutions to help us create a better robot.

I think that standard 1.2. which is scientific enquiry concerns and is used in Lego robotics. If something goes wrong or right with your robot you are always asking questions and analyzing the outcomes of your changes to the robot. Using this standard we can better answer our questions and learn from our mistakes. -Robert-

I think you are both right.

1.2. States:
Scientific Inquiry: Beyond the use of reasoning and consensus, scientific inquiry involves the testing of proposed explanations involving the use of conventional techniques and procedures and usually requiring considerable ingenuity.

So agree with you Robert. But also, 1.2 says consensus, do you see how a group that builds a robot in class uses consensus to agree to test a technique or a solution?

Yes, I see how consensus is used by a group that builds a robot in class. Without it everyone in the group would be doing something different from the other individuals on the team at the same time and you would have one big mess. Also, with consensus everyone in the group has a little bit of what they want in their final project.-Robert-

I think the standard 1.7 is one because it is the first time almost everyone used Robo Lab and they have to test a solution and correct them if they are wrong.

science standard Ny 1 relates to what we are doing in Lego Robotics because it states that students will use mathematical analysis, scientific Inquiry, and engineering design. It also states to pose questions, seek answers and develop solutions. I think that this is necsessary in Lego Robotics because to build robots because you are going to need help from someone more experianced than you, thus, requiring you to ask questions via mathematical analysis. Also you will need to seek answers as to why your robot isn't working or why it doesn't run. In conclusion you will need to arrive at conclusions because otherwise you
will never learn from your mistake

Eugene,
I think your comment is excellent because I can see by what you wrote that A. You read and understand the Standard, B. You understand what is involved in building/programming robots, and C. That you can connect the two ideas.

These connections are not simple. They require in-depth thinking. It takes practice and desire to be able to think deeply. Intense concentration is desirable skill. When you work with a group like in class with Robotics, many problems will be solvable when the whole group brings their total brain power to bear on solving the problems of the challenging. Probably the most frustrating thing will be you will not be able to build and test as fast as you think of designs.

What I would really like everyone to work on is this- Keep up the Science Journals. The note taking and writing opens up even more brain power. Writing notes makes making tables easier and other data note taking reveals thing to us that we can not see without the notes.

i think standard number 1 is what we use most in legos robotics because we are using alot of engineering knowledge to build robots so far

Hey, Mr Wright. This is Diana and Cheily.So far I like using the computers to program the robots. It is very fun. We thought it was going to be hard. I'm used to it because I'm always programing softwares on my laptop and computer!!!
